About

Born and raised in New York City, April Davis currently resides and works in Jupiter FL, finding artistic inspiration in the surrounding natural environment. Throughout her 30-year career, she continues to establish a unique perspective via panoramic landscapes and large scale works.

April holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Queens College and a Master of Fine Arts from Indiana University in Bloomington, which she earned through a teaching assistantship award.

Upon completing her Masters, April relocated to Pittsburgh, PA, where she truly began to explore the intricacies of panoramic landscape and the community took notice. Most notably the Rooney Cooperation, owners of the Pittsburgh Steelers, who acquired a large diptych that was installed in the owner’s box of Three River Stadium. April Davis’ work has been exhibited in numerous galleries, museums and private collections throughout the country.

April is presently exhibiting her work in her new studio/gallery in Jupiter, FL as well as through engagements at many of Florida’s top–ranked art festivals. Having become known for the impressive scale of her work as well as her power to bring out the beauty and tranquility of a specific scene, numerous cities including South Miami, Jupiter and Tarpon Springs, FL have commissioned Davis to create original poster images representing their area. Her original painting “Fairchild Gardens Series I’ was also chosen by the Fairchild Tropical Botanical Gardens in South Miami as their poster image.

Thriving off the personal connection art festivals allow her with the community, April has received artistic recognition as the recipient of many awards in prestigious art shows including Coconut Grove Art Festival, Under the Oaks Art Fair in Vero Beach, Pigeon Key Arts Festival in Marathon, Sunfest in West Palm Beach, Old Island Days in Key West and South Miami Art Festival to name a select few. Additionally, April has once again been invited by the Disney Cooperation to exhibit at Epcot Center in Disney World Florida for their Art in the Garden Festival 2011.

Teaching credits include positions at the University of Pittsburgh, where she received a teaching excellence award, Indiana University and Montgomery Community College in Rockville, MD. She has taught classes in oil painting, watercolor, drawing and design.

April’s latest completed work is an ambitious 11 ft. high by 8 ft. wide commission painting of Lincoln Road in South Beach Florida. It is the second in a series of cityscapes she plans on painting throughout the country, the first being Las Olas Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale, FL. These as well as most of April’s original images are available as Limited Edition Giclee Reproductions. For more information please view her image section and store.

Quotes

“The inspiration for my art has always come from the world around me, landscape being the primary focus of my work now. I have recently become aware of trying to create a window into nature, bringing the outside in and drawing attention to that world. My aim is to create a mood through light, and color, bringing a sense of space and stillness to the viewer. By working on a large scale, I believe it becomes easier for the viewer to visually move inside my paintings, being transported to that space, perceiving the image not through thought but through feeling.”

“Although the outcome of my work is important, the actual act of creating is of primary importance to me. By becoming conscious of that, my work has become clearer and I have found it easier to achieve my goals.”

“My philosophy on art and life is the same for both. Do something you are passionate about, and create joy and peace for yourself and those around you. This is what I strive for in my life and in every work of art I create.”
